Commissioning a piece is straightforward and flexible. Here is how it usually works:
If you are working to a fixed date for an event or wedding, please let me know as early as possible so I can plan your piece into the workshop schedule.
- Initial enquiry – Get in touch via the enquiry form below or the Contact page with a rough idea of what you have in mind, your timescale and budget.
- Discussion of ideas – We refine the brief together by email or phone, looking at shapes, sizes, woods and any personalisation or engraving.
- Choosing timber – I suggest suitable woods based on how the piece will be used and the character you like – for example calm and pale, or richly figured with knots and swirls.
- Design, quote & deposit – I confirm the design, provide a clear quote and, for most commissions, ask for a deposit before I start work.
- Making your piece – I turn, sand and finish your piece by hand, keeping you updated and sharing progress photos if you wish.
- Approval, delivery or collection – Once you are happy with the final photos, we arrange safe packing and delivery, or collection by arrangement.

Thoughtful details, added with care
Many commissions include a small amount of personalisation – perhaps a name and date under a bowl, a short message on the rim of a platter, or a logo on a trophy base.
Where suitable, I use laser engraving for crisp, permanent detail. On some pieces, simple hand-burned lettering or a discreet maker’s mark may be more appropriate. We can decide together what will look best and age well on the wood you have chosen.
